Task 1 - Long reading

Read the following text about the impact of artificial intelligence on creativity and answer the 15 questions.

AI and Creativity: Partner or Threat?

Paragraph 1

Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly advanced beyond complex calculations and data processing, venturing into domains traditionally considered exclusive to human creativity. From composing music and generating realistic artwork to writing poetry and designing innovative products, AI is now capable of producing outputs that challenge our conventional understanding of creative expression. This raises a fundamental question: Is AI a powerful new tool that can enhance human creativity, or does its growing capability pose a threat to the unique human role in artistic and innovative endeavors?

Paragraph 2

One perspective views AI as a collaborative partner, a powerful tool that can augment human creative processes. For artists and designers, AI can automate repetitive tasks, analyze vast datasets to identify patterns or generate new ideas, and provide endless variations for exploration. Musicians can use AI to suggest melodies or harmonies, while writers can leverage it for brainstorming plot twists or character descriptions. In this view, AI acts as a sophisticated assistant, freeing up human creators to focus on higher-level conceptualization and emotional depth.

Paragraph 3

However, another perspective raises concerns about AI's role. Critics argue that true creativity involves human consciousness, emotion, and life experience – elements that AI, by its very nature, cannot possess. They question whether AI "creations" are genuinely original or merely complex statistical manipulations of existing data. There's also a fear that over-reliance on AI might stifle human originality, leading to a homogenization of creative output if algorithms tend to produce similar patterns, thereby reducing the diversity of artistic expression.

Paragraph 4

The legal and ethical implications are also becoming increasingly complex. Questions of copyright ownership arise when AI generates an artwork or a musical piece. Who owns the creation – the AI's programmer, the user who prompted the AI, or the AI itself? Furthermore, the potential for AI to generate "deepfakes" (realistic but fabricated images, audio, or video) poses serious ethical dilemmas regarding authenticity and misinformation, especially in visual and narrative arts where truth and perception can be easily blurred.

Paragraph 5

Ultimately, the future of AI and creativity likely lies in finding a symbiotic relationship. Rather than replacing human creators, AI could enable new forms of artistic expression and push the boundaries of what is possible. Education and ethical guidelines will be crucial to ensure that AI is used responsibly and that human creativity remains at the forefront. Understanding AI's capabilities and limitations will allow us to leverage its power while preserving the irreplaceable value of human imagination and emotional insight.
